September 4, 2009 - Joe Pug's captivating voice and thoughtful storytelling immediately and understandably draw comparisons to a young Bob Dylan. While studying to be a playwright at the University of North Carolina, Pug changed course and moved to Chicago, where he recorded his debut EP, Nation of Heat, in late-night sessions. Drawing inspiration from ideas he'd had for a play, Nation of Heat takes a brief journey through timeless struggles of humanity and spiritual conflict. Pug's full-length debut arrives in 2009.

During his set, Pug makes mention of an art exhibit on display at the Cultural Center Theater, home to Mountain Stage. That exhibit features marbles from Marble King, a West Virginia company whose marbles are used in children's games such as Hungry, Hungry Hippos and Ker-Plunk.

To end the set, Julie Adams and the Mountain Stage Band come out and perform the Willie Dixon blues standard, "I Want to Be Loved."
