It's going to be a sight to see: The Obama family, with their hypoallergenic dog, in their new residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Like all parents in a new neighborhood, the Obamas will need to choose a school for their children. Michelle Obama has reportedly visited two private schools in the D.C. area.

But journalist Stephanie Mencimer has a novel idea not tried since Amy Carter lived in the White House: What about sending the girls to a public school?

She speaks with Farai Chideya about the open letter she wrote to President-elect Obama for Mother Jones magazine.
