November 27, 2008Twenty years after moving from South Africa to the U.S., Philadelphia-based folk-rocker Andrew Lipke has carved out a distinctive sound that reflects his surroundings, both past and present. With influences ranging from classical to classic rock, Lipke specializes in rock ballads with sticky melodies and occasionally dark insights on love and death. On his newest album, Mother Pearl and Dynamite, his swooning vocals are a perfect match for the cello and pedal-steel guitar of his backing band, The Prospects.
Based in Philadelphia, WXPN takes listeners on a journey of music discovery through new and heritage rock, blues, roots, and folk artists. WXPN also produces NPR's World Cafe.
