December 3, 2008 - Singer-songwriter Matt Nathanson performs music from his sixth record, Some Mad Hope, during this Mountain Stage appearance. Nathanson left Boston for California's Bay Area about 15 years ago and eventually found himself opening shows for likeminded pop acts such as John Mayer, Guster and Tori Amos. More recently, his songs have been featured in several television shows, as is common these days for young songwriters, and he's been featured on the soundtrack to two of the latest American Pie movies.

Nathanson has an amicable stage presence, and he clearly enjoyed the quiet atmosphere of the audience gathered in Charleston, W.Va.'s Cultural Center Theater. He enlisted the crowd's help in singing along with "Suspended" before inviting fellow Mountain Stage guest Ingrid Michaelson to join him in singing "Loud."
