Why Are There So Many Holocaust Movies?

The Holocaust provides the backdrop for a spate of new movies coming to theaters soon. While The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and The Reader just premiered, they're closely followed by Defiance, Valkyrie, Adam Resurrected, and Good. Can we chalk up this trend to some grand artistic need? Critic Andrew Wallenstein says no — the timing of these releases indicates the real reason: the Holocaust is Oscar bait.
