December 22, 2008 - Acclaimed gospel artist CeCe Winan says, like all of her work, she was guided by God to create her latest Grammy-nominated album Thy Kingdom Come.
Winans says gun violence, especially on college campuses, partly inspired one of the album's tracks Waging War. She says the song reflects her belief that, "You win every battle through prayer, hope and a faith in God."
Winans' Detroit-based family has played a large role in shaping the modern gospel music industry. Her mother and father recorded together as 'Mom and Pop Winans.' And now she's passing on the tradition. Her son Alvin Love III wrote and produced The Coast is Clear on her newest album.
Thy Kingdom Come is nominated for two Grammys. It's Winans' eighth solo album.
