A woman in Peru wanted to name her baby after a professional soccer player. But when the baby came on Christmas Day, she changed her mind. The mother's name is Virgen Maria Huarcaya. She named her Christmas baby Jesus Emanuel. The baby's father is a carpenter.

STEVE INSKEEP, host:

Good morning, I'm Steve Inskeep. A woman in Peru wanted to name her baby after a soccer player. But when the baby came on Christmas Day, the mother changed her plans. The mother's name is Virgin Mary, and she named her Christmas baby Jesus. If you say that in Spanish, the mother's full name is Virgen Maria Huarcaya and the boy is Jesus. We do not know what this baby Jesus will grow up to do for a living, but we do know that his father is a carpenter.
