January 2, 2009 - With her beautiful, precise and versatile voice, 19-year-old singer Kelly Sweet made her Mountain Stage debut accompanied by the show's house band. Her song "Raincoat," included in the set, received some airplay on adult-oriented radio stations, which is where Mountain Stage host Larry Groce first heard her while sitting in for a local DJ.
Though a young performer, Sweet traverses both pop and jazz, and seems comfortable singing in multiple languages. Sweet tackles Aerosmith's "Dream On" as a haunting ballad — she sang the song to her father while he was in chemotherapy — before singing a stripped-down version of the title track to her debut album We Are One, with house pianist Bob Thompson.
