James Taylor has spent much of his long career writing his own material, but many know him for his gentle interpretations of others' songs. Still, not until now has Taylor devoted an entire album to what is essentially a new American songbook. Covers offers his take on R&B and country standards, including The Drifters' "On Broadway," Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away" and Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne."
In a session with host David Dye, Taylor explains why he decided to record a covers album — something he says he's had in mind for years. He performs three songs and offers up three more as Web-only outtakes on this page.
