George Stanford.
George Stanford opens his Mountain Stage debut with the title track to his first full-length record, Big Drop, which came out soon after this show was recorded in March 2008.
Hailing from Philadelphia, where he was once a member of the group Townhall, Stanford was also a trombone player before pursuing his solo career. His pure, soulful voice is prominent in these pared-down songs, with tasteful accompaniment on bass by Nate Skiles and drummer Mike Pietrusko. Stanford offers up a washy, ambient guitar backing on "Down River," before making his way over to the Steinway grand piano at Ohio University's Templeton-Blackburn Memorial Auditorium for "My Own Worst Enemy."
