With sparse percussive accompaniment, and a classical guitar style synched with his metronomic foot-tapping, Swedish singer-songwriter Jose Gonzalez sings in his signature hushed, expressive tone in his Mountain Stage debut, recorded in March 2008.

Gonzalez's debut album Veneer received almost universal praise, especially in Europe, when it was released in 2004. He returned with the similarly stripped-down In Our Nature in 2007. With Yukimi Nagano and Christoffer Berg on percussion, Gonzalez touches on his original material before re-imagining two diverse covers in his own delicate style: pop star Kylie Minogue's "Hand on Your Heart" and British trip-hop outfit Massive Attack's "Teardrop."
