The Federal Trade Commission holds meeting today and tomorrow about the information that companies collect online. Web tracking technology is becoming more sophisticated, and as we have discussed on this program, advertisers can beam specific ads your way based on the Web sites that you have previously visited.
Yesterday, a coalition of consumer groups called for a Do Not Track list - it's modeled on the National Do Not Call Registry. It would let Internet users opt out of the programs that monitor what you look at online.
