Reaching Out to America
The goal of this project is to create a safe, respectful space in the public arena where Americans from all walks of life can participate in a national dialogue with the potential to inspire and transform. We will invite participants to express and discuss the core values that guide their lives using public radio, the Internet, collaborations with commercial media and community activities. By inviting Americans of diverse religious beliefs, ages, regions, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and political philosophy to participate in the series, we will create a picture of the American spirit in all its rich complexity, beyond the categorizations of today's pollsters.
The power of the original series was revealed at the community level and we plan to build on the success of that approach. An advisory panel of public radio professionals, educators, business people and members of the interfaith community is guiding the outreach strategy. We hope to implement this strategy in concert with local stations, as well as other community institutions, including libraries, schools, places of worship and senior citizen centers.
We will update this page as more specific information becomes available.
