Northwest power substations were targeted on Christmas Day

In incidents described by officials as burglaries or vandalism, three locations outside of Tacoma, Wash., were targeted before dawn Christmas morning and a fire was set at a fourth substation later Sunday. About 15,000 people lost power.

Climate activists are fuming as Germany turns to coal to replace Russian gas

Germany is firing up coal plants and importing liquefied natural gas to shore up energy supplies. Activists are carrying out increasingly disruptive protests, gluing themselves to roads and runways.

China has stopped publishing daily COVID data amid reports of a huge spike in cases

China's National Health Commission said in a statement it would no longer publish daily data and that "from now on, the Chinese CDC will release relevant COVID information for reference and research."

The Taliban have banned women from working for NGOs in Afghanistan

The Taliban government have ordered all non-governmental groups in Afghanistan to suspend employing women, allegedly because some female employees didn't wear the Islamic headscarf correctly.
