Reno at SCOTUS
Attorney General Janet Reno argued her first case before the Supreme Court today. She represented the administration in calling for more power for police making routine traffic stops. Reno supported the authority of police who pull a car over to require not just the driver, but also the passengers, to leave the vehicle. She argued that the officer might find it necessary for his own safety. But questions from the justices indicated they worry that it is too intrusive on the rights of people who are not suspects in any crime. NPR's Nina Totenberg reports.
