Nyc School Uniforms

In New York City, the board of education has decided that its half-million students in elementary school should be wearing uniforms. But in the policy approved last night, the board decided that individual schools — and parents — could opt out of the requirement. No scientific research has established a link between school uniforms and a decline in discipline problems or a rise in academic achievement. But some large school systems that require school uniforms say the policy has made its schools safer...because children don't compete over the clothes they wear. WNYC's Beth Fertig reports.
