Harvard University's DuBois Institute for Afro-American Research held its second conference on AIDS in the black community. The intent is to get black leaders to put it at the top of their agenda so that the issue won't slip off of the front pages as the epidemic declines in other communities, and to deal with demographic shifts in the disease, from the white gay community...which now makes up about a third of all AIDS cases...to minority communities, which represent more than half of all cases. NPR's Brenda Wilson reports that AIDS advocates in the black community say its time to shift the resources to where the disease is.
