Frank is joined by salsa trombonist Chris Washburne. Seven years ago, Washburne discovered had a rare form of nerve cancer in his cheek. His doctor told him he a 50-50 chance of surviving surgery and that he would never play the trombone again. As a result of surgery, he lost feeling in half of his face but, undeterred, Washburne returned to his intrument and taught himself how to play all over again. Now, he performs regularly with his own band, called SYOTOS, and other well-known Latin jazz artists. His new CD is called Nuyorican Nights (Jazzhead).
