With the crucial vote on permanent trade status for China less than a week away, both sides of the issue were wheeling out their biggest guns today. President Clinton, who favors normal trade relations with China, appeared in the Rose Garden with Alan Greenspan, chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. On Capitol Hill, critics of trade with China introduced several Chinese dissidents who said they had been victims of human rights abuses in their homeland. NPR's Brian Naylor reports from the Capitol.
