Roman Gay Pride NPR's Sylvia Poggioli reports from Rome that city leaders have withdrawn official backing and funding for the upcoming World Gay Pride 2000 festival. The Vatican had asked that the event be postponed or moved to another city. Roman Catholic prelates, as well as some Italian politicians, see the festival as an affront to the Church's Holy Year celebrations.
