Celebrated bandleader Tito Puente died on Wednesday. The 77 year old percussionist was a major force behind the trend to incorporate latin rhythms in jazz and popular music, and when Tito Puente moved to the front of the orchestra, he took his percussion with him. He achieved wide popularity in America with the Mambo craze of the 1950s, and over the course of his career worked with musicians from Lionel Hampton to Carlos Santana.
