The Airline Economy

NPR's Adam Hochberg reports that it was a year of losses for most of the nation's airlines. This week several airlines announced record losses for both the fourth quarter and the just-completed year. Analysts say the September attacks worsened an economic slump that had begun several months earlier. But the number of fliers is rising again and planes are now taking off on average about two-thirds full.
