Monteverdi Operas Performed
Only three of a dozen or so operas written by Claudio Monteverdi survive in enough of a form to perform. Now, the Brooklyn Academy of Music is in the midst of presenting these three as a cycle. They'll be performed by three different international companies. Performers and audiences alike seem drawn to the work because it's more Shakespeare than Mozart. Claudio Monteverdi himself called his operas "music in service to words." David D'Arcy reports.
