Gates Testimony
NPR's Larry Abramson reports that Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates took the stand for the first time today, arguing against the relatively tough sanctions still being sought by a group of nine states. The company was found to have violated antitrust laws, but a proposal to split the company in two was rejected as too harsh. Microsoft reached a settlement with the Justice Department in November of last year. But the conditions weren't acceptable to about half of the states that had signed on to the Justice Department case. Today, Gates told the court the proposed sanctions would set Microsoft's Windows operating system back by 10 years.
