The Hollywood Sign, Present at the Creation
With its perfect perch overlooking Tinseltown, the Hollywood Sign is four stories tall — but a bit narrower than it used to be. The original sign read "Hollywoodland," an advertisement for a real estate development. In the 1940s, after the development went bust, the "land" part was taken down. On Morning Edition, Renee Montagne tells the story of the world-famous landmark as part of NPR's Present at the Creation series.
