Michael Deaver spent more than 30 years with Ronald Reagan, starting out in the mid-1960s as a low-level aide when Reagan became governor of California, and winding up as deputy chief of staff in the Reagan White House.
Along the way, Deaver became one of the president's closest confidantes. He speaks with NPR's Scott Simon about Reagan the man and Reagan the political icon.
