Director's Cuts: Dads and Kids
Weekend Edition Sunday music director Ned Wharton reviews the work of two artists with famous musician dads who're blazing their own unique paths: Emilie Berstein, daughter of film score composer Elmer Bernstein, and pianist Peter John Stoltzman, son of Grammy-winning clarinetist Richard Stoltzman.

Emilie Bernstein is the daughter of film and television soundtrack composer Elmer Bernstein, known for hundreds of scores, from The Magnificent Seven to Ghostbusters. Emilie, who's been orchestrating her father's music for more than a decade, is establishing herself as an indie rocker with her grooving and atmospheric group, Story of M. Their CD is titled These Little Crimes.

Son of Grammy-winning clarinetist Richard Stoltzman, pianist Peter John Stoltzman's music takes its cue from jazz and improvised music. A CD of his original music called Cycles is available through his website, petersstoltzman.com. The father-son duo often perform together on stage, and an upcoming CD of clarinet and piano music is in the works.
