Not Always Getting Monument Inscriptions Right
Sixteen Memorial Days ago, Pitt County, N.C., dedicated a monument to veterans. It's only now that authorities noticed that they misspelled some inscriptions on the stone. The Coast Guard's Latin motto, "Semper Paratus" — "Always Ready" — is spelled "Semper Haratus." The Marine motto "Semper Fidelis" — "Always Faithful" — is inscribed as "Semper Fider," which translates, roughly, as "always a puppy from Boston."
