Into the Woods and Out to Sea
Audio will be available later today.
A Performance Today tip of the cap to Earth Day continues with two pieces that conjure up the deep, dark forest. First, from a concert at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, cellist Stephen Isserlis and pianist Ana-Maria Vera team up for a performance of "Silent Woods," by Antonin Dvorak. Then we'll head to upstate New York to hear "The Forest at Night," by American composer Robert Manno. Manno himself conducts the Windham Festival Orchestra at the Performing Arts Center in Windham, N.Y. And finally we're out for a sailing trip, as Carlos Kalmar leads the Oregon Symphony in a performance of "Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage" by Felix Mendelssohn. The concert is at the Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Ore.
