Don't Miss: Ashton Carter on North Korea, Airbus
Evening reverberations from All Things Considered... I was very interested to hear the interview with former Assistant Defense Secretary for International Security Policy Ashton Carter on North Korea's missile tests. He and former Defense Secretary William Perry published an op-ed piece recently, proposing that the U.S. stage a pre-emptive strike on North Korea's missile launch site. In this evening's interview, Robert Siegel asked Carter the very question I had when I read the op-ed piece: Wouldn't a pre-emptive strike on North Korea provoke a war on the Korean Peninsula? Carter said no, he didn't think so ("North Korea is not going to risk suicide"), but some other Asia analysts aren't so sure. North Korea, of course, says it would strike back against any U.S. attack.
All Things Considered also had interesting reports on the troubles afflicting the world's biggest passenger plane, Airbus' massive A-380. The problems with the A-380 are really bad for Airbus, but also for big U.S. airports, which have spent a fortune preparing infrastructure to accommodate the plane.
