Colorado's Fort Carson is already the Army's second-largest training base, but it needs more space to train troops for combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Army wants to expand it to practice maneuvers in a remote canyon 100 miles from the base. Local ranchers are concerned that the army's expansion will destroy the unique ranch economy of the region.

From member station KRCC, Eric Whitney reports.
