The Good, The Bad & The Queen is the brainchild of Damon Albarn, who also served as the driving force behind Blur and Gorillaz. The project was originally going to be a solo effort, but soon evolved into a group after he recruited the talents of Paul Simonon of The Clash, Simon Tong of The Verve and respected Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen.
The band's music sounds deliberately moody, with just enough of Albarn's signature pop style to make the songs catchy and addictive. The Good, The Bad & The Queen's new self-titled debut can be considered a concept album: All of its songs share a unifying thread revolving around modern London. The disc was produced by Danger Mouse, who also produced the second Gorillaz album, Demon Days.
