A Bird's Eye View of Darfur
RENEE MONTAGE, host:
Space technology is also being used to highlight problems here at home, on earth. The United States Holocaust Museum - Memorial Museum - and Google Earth have teamed up to highlight the genocide unfolding in the Darfur region of western Sudan. Users of Google Earth can now zoom in on satellite images of Darfur and see direct evidence of destroyed villages. They can also get video footage and the first-person stories of survivors. The content will be continually updated to show the progress of the violence. The goal of the project is to both chronicle what is happening in Darfur, as well as to concrete evidence of ongoing atrocities.
This is MORNING EDITION. I'm Renee Montagne.
