Philharmonic's New Conductor is Violinist's Son
The New York Philharmonic announced the appointment this week of Alan Gilbert as its next conductor.
Gilbert literally grew up with the orchestra — both his mother and father are musicians who have played in it.
His mother, Yoko Takebe, a member of the Philharmonic's violin section, talks with Jacki Lyden about the prospect of her son becoming her boss.
