Robert Schneider, a professor at Northern Illinois University, talks about the helplessness he felt when a gunman opened fire in a lecture hall across campus on Feb. 14.
Schneider writes in an op-ed published recently in The Chicago Tribune, "The evening before, I had used the stage from which the killer had fired to lecture on Aristotle's elements of drama: plot, character, theme, etc. Everything I had said about the techniques that theater uses to represent experience had been overtaken by experience itself."
