Quarter Of U.S. Workers Get No Paid Vacation

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that one-quarter of workers in the United States get no paid vacation at all. And non-union workers get more time off than union workers during their first years on the job, though the union workers start getting extra vacation after 10 or 20 years on the job.

Those part-time laid off workers are getting some extras day off this August, but of course it is not paid vacation. And that is the subject of today's last word in business. The Bureau of Labor Statistics put out some numbers on our time off. It reports that a quarter of workers in this country get no paid vacation at all. You'd think it might help your prospects for vacation if you join a union that negotiates for you, but even that takes a while to pay off. Non-union workers actually get more time off than union workers during their first years on the job. Later that does start to change. To start getting extra vacation, all you have to do is work a union job for 10 or 20 years.
