Last weekend, critic Will Hermes attended All Tomorrow's Parties, an alt-rock festival held at Kutsher's Hotel and Country Club in New York's Catskill Mountains. Unlike massive rock festivals such as Lollapalooza and Coachella, All Tomorrow's Parties is relatively small — 2,700 attendees — and is more like a hipster summer camp than Woodstock, as attendees can hike, swim or play miniature golf between acts.
The weekend saw sets by numerous bands, including Mogwai, Meat Puppets and Lightning Bolt, as well as the first U.S. performance in 16 years by My Bloody Valentine, which closed the weekend in spectacular (and deafening) fashion.
