Ohio-born singer-songwriter Joshua Radin has received widespread exposure in the relatively short time he's been creating music. He wrote his first song less than four years ago — Radin's original focus was in the visual arts — but it wound up featured on the popular TV show Scrubs. His debut CD, We Were Here, was released on a major label in 2006, but Radin tells his Mountain Stage audience that he bought out his contract when he was told that his follow-up (Simple Times) didn't contain a Top 40 hit. The disc was then released independently last month by Radin's own Mom & Pop Music label.

Born in Ohio, Joshua Radin is now based in Los Angeles. Brian Blauser hide caption
Radin's hushed vocals recall those of Nick Drake, and Radin's soft-pop sound is embellished here by Laura Jansen on piano and background vocals and Ryan Lerman on guitar.
Mountain Stage vocalist Julie Adams and the Mountain Stage band perform Georgia-based music luminary Randall Bramblett's "The More You're Fading" to round out this segment.
This segment originally ran Oct. 29, 2008.
