Spy Chief's Family Details Posted On Facebook
Photos and family details about the newly appointed head of Britain's international spy agency have been removed from a social networking Web site. British newspapers report that the information was posted by the wife of John Sawers on her Facebook page. Some opposition politicians say the revelations are a security breach, while others say they are just embarrassing.
RENEE MONTAGNE, host:
Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne.
The incoming head of Britain's MI6, Sir John Sawers, is getting the kind of attention a spy chief would rather not have. It came from Facebook, where his wife posted family photos. As the Guardian Newspaper noted, children, pets and swimwear revealed. Britain's foreign secretary scoffed at the controversy to the BBC. It's not a state secret that he wears Speedo swimming trunks. Still the Facebook page is no longer public.
It's MORNING EDITION.
