- "Stickin' With My Baby's Lover"
- "Save the Best for Last"
- "Dance Me to the End of Love" (Julie Adams & The Mountain Stage Band)
The three members of The Refugees — Deborah Holland, Wendy Waldman and Cindy Bullens — are all successful songwriters in their own right. Holland was a member of Animal Logic, a jazz project with Stanley Clarke and Stewart Copeland. Waldman has penned several hit songs, including "Fishin' in the Dark," a hit for The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and "Save the Best for Last" from this set. Bullens has sung with Elton John, and her songs have been covered by many artists, including The Dixie Chicks and Irma Thomas.
Though each of the three women has appeared separately on Mountain Stage in the past, this is their first time appearing there under the Refugees moniker. During the performance, they share their humorous story of how they met and began touring together. Their performance features two songs from Unbound, their first album together, as well as "Save the Best for Last," a hit for Vanessa Williams. The set closes with Julie Adams & the Mountain Stage band, led by Ron Sowell, performing Leonard Cohen's song "Dance Me To the End of Love."
This feature originally ran Apr. 16, 2009.
