GM Sees Market Share Gains In China
General Motors says its sales in China for the first half of this year topped sales in the U.S. That's a first. GM says it sold just over 1.2 million vehicles in China, compared with 1 million in the U.S.

NPR's business news starts with GM's surging sales in China.

MONTAGNE: General Motors says its sales in China for the first half of this year topped sales in the U.S., and that's a first. GM says it sold just over 1.2 million vehicles in China, compared to just one million vehicles sold here. This shouldn't come as a surprise. China is now the world's biggest car market. It also is the fastest growing major economy. And it has rebounded from the global recession quickly, while the U.S. continues to struggle.
