Carey Mulligan, seen here promoting Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps in May 2010, is one of the actresses reportedly being considered for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
News is dribbling out about the casting of the upcoming adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, to be directed by David Fincher. Deadline had more yesterday, including the continuing circling of Daniel Craig as a potential Mikael Blomkvist and the search for Lisbeth Salander, which apparently is far from over.
You've got your more inside-the-box candidates: Carey Mulligan (about to show up in Wall Street 2, which seems almost certain not to fully take advantage of the talent she displayed in An Education), Ellen Page (not only still leftover-noteworthy from all the way back in Juno, but freshly noteworthy from Inception), and Mia Wasikowska (recently getting attention for Alice In Wonderland and, perhaps more importantly for this process, The Kids Are All Right).
But you've also got others. Deadline mentions "Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), Sara Snook (Sleeping Beauty), Rooney Mara (The Social Network) and Sophie Lowe (Blame)." Interesting to note: Sucker Punch isn't out yet; The Social Network isn't out yet; Blame isn't out yet. Sleeping Beauty -- get this -- includes Snook (whose name appears to be spelled with the ending "h"), but also features Browning, who reportedly replaced Wasikowska. I'll give you a moment.
At any rate, it's time, we think, to ask you to weigh in on the casting. Can you see any of these actresses as Lisbeth? How about others they're not including? How about Noomi Rapace, who's in the Swedish version still playing in American art house theaters while all this casting is underway?
We've got a poll, and then you should feel free to sound off in the comments. Who would be your choice?
