Country star Elizabeth Cook recently stopped by World Cafe.

Country star Elizabeth Cook first caught World Cafe host David Dye's attention in 2007, when she released Balls. It was a daring record for someone established in country music, featuring songs and production that didn't fit the traditional radio format. Naturally, WXPN started playing it.

Now, Cook is back with another record that defies pigeonholing. Welder, produced by Don Was, includes aspects of traditional country and blues, with just a little pop thrown in. The Nashville singer's voice sits nicely next to Dolly Parton's and Loretta Lynn's, as does her sense of humor and feminism.
