Mountain Stage looks back in our archives for this segment, a performance by jazz-cabaret group Pink Martini from June 2005, their first appearance in West Virginia. The band performs songs from 2004's Hang on Little Tomato, plus the title track to 1997's Sympathique.
Formed in Portland, Ore. in the mid-1990s, Pink Martini was founded by pianist and musical director Thomas Lauderdale and vocalist Chyna Forbes, who met at Harvard University. They specialize in a pleasant mix of jazz, classical and pop music, with lyrics in several languages including French ("Sympathique"), Japanese ("Kikuchiyo") and Italian ("Una Note A Napoli").
This performance originally aired on December 24, 2010.
