When Dale Watson came to Nashville to record his new record Carryin’ On, he didn't subscribe to "Nashville’s definition of country music.” Though he's always defied convention, Watson decided to step outside of his own boundaries for his latest release. Recorded at Nashville’s Hilltop Studios, Watson used legendary Nashville session players Lloyd Green, Hargus Robbins and Pete Wade. He also took a more matured approached to this album -- singing of family and loosening grips on everything that ultimately can't be controlled.

Yet, this is not an about-face for the traditionally honky-tonk singer. “There’s nothing here that’s retro,” says Watson. “I was really hoping to make a record with today’s technology, but with the musicians who played on the music I grew up on. I’m pretty happy with the way we’ve merged today with yesterday on this album. It will remind people of the old records, but it sounds like something new.”

Listen to Watson's interview with World Cafe host David Dye and hear him perform four songs from Carryin' On.
