The heartland rockers of The Bottle Rockets first came to Mountain Stage in 1995. They return for the sixth time with songs from Lean Forward, an album that reunites them with Eric "Roscoe" Ambel, who produced the Rockets' albums The Brooklyn Side and 24 Hours A Day.
Lean Forward features timely, topical songs such as "Hard Times," on which songwriter and singer Brian Henneman sings, "I ain't broke down / I'm just out of gas." Bassist Keith Voegele, guitarist John Horton and drummer Mark Ortmann — "The faces on the Mount Rushmore of this band," as Hennemen says — stretch out a little in "Give Me Room," showcasing the band's guitar-heavy brand of rock 'n' roll.
