Our panelists answer questions about the week's news: They have sails and sales.

: waitwait.npr.org.

Paula, some good news for bargain hunters, there's a big sale on right now. Who just announced they're cutting prices 20 percent?

PAULA POUNDSTONE: Oh my heavens. If it's the 99 Cent Store, this is going to be great.

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

MAZ JOBRANI: It's now the 79 Cent Store.

POUNDSTONE: I don't know. Could you give me a hint, Peter? You do that sometimes with the others.

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

: Ready? It's like arghh you looking for a deal?

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

AMY DICKINSON: A pirate leprechaun.

POUNDSTONE: Yeah. Hold on. Lucky Charms?

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

: I thought that was a very fine pirate impression.

POUNDSTONE: Okay, they're giving the...

: I just gave it to you.

POUNDSTONE: Pirates.

: Pirates.

POUNDSTONE: Pirates are giving a deal.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

: The Somali pirates are giving a 20 percent off sale.

POUNDSTONE: I didn't know.

: Yes.

POUNDSTONE: Oh that is so great.

: For a limited time, hostages will be returned by the Somali pirates for 20 percent off their ransoms.

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

POUNDSTONE: And if you have the Somali pirate club card...

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

: Well, the problem is that, you know, it takes valuable manpower to hold these ships filled with people, and they want to get rid of them. You know, get them out off the showroom floor.

DICKINSON: It's inventory.

POUNDSTONE: Yeah.

: Get back out there and get new hostages.

POUNDSTONE: Yeah.

: So everything must go.

POUNDSTONE: Oh, the crazy peg leg sale.

: Exactly.

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

: I'm Crazy Ahab.

POUNDSTONE: We took way too many hostages.

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

: You know, the problem is you go and...

POUNDSTONE: Come on down.

: You go to the discount rack; you can never find a hostage your size.

DICKINSON: No.

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

DICKINSON: Did they throw a banner over the side...

: Exactly.

DICKINSON: Of the boat?

: Yes. They all wear buttons: "save money on ransom now. Ask me how."

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

JOBRANI: That's got to make the hostages feel pretty worthless. They like, come on, I'm worth - you can't give a discount on me.

: Yeah, and it's like when you get your hostage back, do you tell them? Because he's like, I was languishing there for six months. And you're like, well, I wanted to wait until you went on clearance.

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

: I'm a bargain hunter, sorry. You're like, honey, I never ransom retail. You know that about me.

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)
