The Mountain Goats are John Darnielle, Peter Hughes and Jon Wurster, and the band's been around, in one form or another, since 1991. Darnielle's lo-fi beginnings involved just his poetry, his guitar and a dual-cassette recorder, but resulted in some of the finer albums of the '90s (Zopilote Machine, Nine Black Poppies, Full Force Galesburg).

Since 2003, Darnielle has gone the hi-fi route, and earned new fans with each subsequent album. The latest, All Eternals Deck, came out in March. The Mountain Goats perform two songs from the album during the group's World Cafe session, and revisit a tune from Darnielle's 2002 album, All Hail West Texas.
