The BBC is offering a path to mindfulness through a new program featuring natural and ambient sounds.

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

SCOTT SIMON, HOST:

There are different paths to mindfulness - meditation, yoga, cheesecake. All right, I added that last one. BBC's Radio 3 has another path - slow radio. The BBC says it's an antidote to today's frenzied world. Step back. Let go. Immerse yourself. Slow radio features just sounds, not BJ Leiderman, who does our theme music, but sounds that include...

(SOUNDBITE OF NIGHTINGALES CHIRPING)

SIMON: ...Twenty-two minutes of chirping nightingales. And...

(SOUNDBITE OF AMBIENT NOISE)

SIMON: ...The ambient sounds of Tokyo. Other sounds are a snowy forest near Oslo, a journey along the Sacred River and a cattle blessing in Ireland.

(SOUNDBITE OF ARCHIVED RECORDING)

UNIDENTIFIED PERSON: Each of us will say the blessing.

(SOUNDBITE OF HORN)

SIMON: I think those are the monks, not the cows.
