SCOTT SIMON, HOST:

I began to get congratulatory tweets early Wednesday on being elected Minnesota's secretary of state. I'm not from Minnesota - don't even have a driver's license - but I found myself humbled and proud to receive the honor and pledge to make Minnesota great again - though, of course, it already is. So I was disappointed to discover that my elevation to high office was merely a typo in a headline of the Minneapolis Star Tribune saying Scott Simon had been elected secretary of state - a typo. And I'd already had a morel, the official state mushroom, tattooed on my chest.

The man really elected Minnesota's secretary of state is Steve Simon. He turns out to be gracious and funny. He asked if he gets a show on NPR now, and I said, hah - a public radio show from Minnesota where people sing and tell stories - it'll never work. Secretary of State Simon did invite me to be his guest at the Minnesota State Fair, which I guarantee you is now going to have the biggest, best and butteriest (ph) butter sculpting contest in the country. My name is Scott Simon, and I approve this message.
